CHRONIC HIVES/RASH COMES AND GOES

My advice to hive-sufferers is:

  1. Don't make yourself crazy looking for allergies.
  2. Don't do blood tests.
  3. Apply an OTC itch lotion as needed (Sarna is good.)
  4. Take an OTC antihistamine if needed 1-3 times a day, such as diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine.
  5. Relax--hives generally go away as mysteriously as they came. And they aren't contagious."
I'll take that advice. I'm not one for worrying about where such stupid rashes come from. More concerned with the symptoms, I guess.

Hives! Is this what I've got?

"What are hives?

Hives are red, very itchy, swollen areas of the skin. Hives arise suddenly and may leave quickly in 1-2 hours or can last as long as 48 hours. They often appear in clusters, with new clusters appearing as other areas clear. Physicians refer to hives as urticaria. Over one-fifth of the population has suffered an eruption of hives at some point in their lives."
