"UK consumers can get broadband access for under £20 per month for the first time.
In the last week, ET Global Solutions launched a rock-bottom residential USB package for £18.95 (including VAT) and fairADSL began offering an ADSL package costing £18.99 per month.
There's an activation fee of around £60 for both services, and then (in common with other ISPs) consumers will have to fork out for ADSL modems and a micro-filter. Both packages are (naturally enough) self-install."
Hmmm.
£60.00 divided by 12 months = £5 per month
so it's really £25.00 per month. Things may change after a year so only divide by 12. Filters are £60, modem £85 (or the other way around). Still not as neat as an installed by a specialist Telewest's half or one meg service - with a free help line (no 50p per minute charges).

"...understanding your customers' decision-making process makes you a much more effective sales professional than even the most dazzling practitioners of the dog-and-pony method.
The first step in understanding that process is to remember a seemingly simple message we gave:
People buy for their own reasons, not for yours.
The message is crucial because until you know your customers' reasons for wanting÷or not wanting÷to buy, you're selling with blinders on. No matter how many reasons you may have for believing your product or service is a great buy, they will mean nothing unless each individual customer has solid reasons of his own for wanting to do business with you.

"Jane Hardman, who formerly worked at heavyweight City PR firm Brunswick, is expected to take over as head of Telewest's in-house public relations team.
However, the company's deepening debts prompted the ousting of Mr Singer on Wednesday. Telewest insiders said it was inevitable Murray would leave shortly afterwards. "

"In an effort to conserve cash Mr Burdick said Telewest would spend less chasing new customers and concentrate on persuading existing subscribers to buy broadband internet services.
The high-speed web access is the third and most profitable leg in cable's much vaunted "triple play" of telephone, television and internet.
Telewest has signed up 15,000 subscribers to its 1MB broadband service in the seven weeks since it launched, and now has 192,000 customers taking high-speed internet services.
In the six months to June 30 core earnings grew 30% to £184m on a yearly basis, while turnover edged up 4% to £674m. "

"In the past customer service was neglected because the huge acquisition spree both companies had been on meant they had to run to stand still. By snapping up lots of very different local cable franchises they presented themselves with an integra tion nightmare."
...Yet it is unclear exactly how great the demand for fast internet services is - particularly at current pricing levels of £15-£50 per month. Current customers tend to be wealthy and internet savvy - a small part of the overall population."

"It is believed he paid the price for having a more visionary approach when board members wanted someone to take a hands-on role.
That will now be fulfilled by Mr Burdick, who a spokeswoman said had a "detailed knowledge of the business" after six years with Telewest.
Shares in Telewest, which have lost 99% of their value in two years, closed down 11% at 2p today.
